SuperGP on SA’s fastest track

SUPERGP MACHINES SHOULD TOP 280KM/H THROUGH RIFLE RANGE SWEEP Super300 category should continue to deliver the closest racing seen on SA circuits in a long time.

The 2018 SuperGP Champions Trophy series will visit South Africa’s fastest race circuit this weekend, with the third round of the title chase at the East London Grand Prix circuit on Saturday. The event will form part of the Africa Bike Week, which will be headquarte­red in Buffalo City from tomorow to Sunday.

In the premiere SuperGP category, each of the three races held so far this season has had a different winner.

David McFadden (RPM Centre Kawasaki ZX10) leads the championsh­ip with a a narrow points advantage over Michael White (Consortium Shipping Yamaha R1). Daryn Upton (Uncle Andy Suzuki GSXR 1000) lies in third place ahead of defending champion Clint Seller (King Price Extreme Yamaha R1), Morne Geldenhuis (NCA Plant Hire Yamaha R1), Dylan Barnard (Shop #74 Yamaha R1), Gavin Upton (Shop #74 Yamaha R1) and Karl Schultz (Suzuki GSXR1000).

The ultra-fast East London circuit should see the SuperGP machines top 280km/h through the Rifle Range sweep, officially the country’s fastest race circuit corner. Hayden Jonas (Samurai Yamaha R6) currently tops the Super600 standings, marginally ahead of Adolf Boshoff (Uncle Andy Suzuki GSXR600) and Blaze Baker (King Price Extreme Yamaha R6). Jared Schultz (Uncle Andy Suzuki GSXR600) lies fourth, ahead of Byron Bester (Hi-Tech Kawasaki ZX6), Brandon Staffen (AJH Cooling Kawasaki ZX6), Aiden Liebenberg (Shop #74 Kawasaki ZX6) and Dain Nelson (TRD Motorcycle­s Yamaha R6).

The Super300 category has provided some of the closest racing seen on SA circuits in a long while, and Saturday’s events should be no exception. Kewyn Snyman (The Mag Workshop KTM390) leads the championsh­ip from Dino Iozzo (King Price Extreme Honda), lady rider Zante Otto (ORT-Online Yamaha R3), Taric van der Merwe (Evolve Nutrition Yamaha R3), plus the Uncle Andy KTM duo of Tyreece Robert and Chase Hulscher. They are followed by Deegan Claassens (Nine Nine Ninja 300) and Clinton Fourie (NCA Plant Hire Yamaha R3).

The national riders will be supported by a number of regional categories. Practice and qualifying, plus an additional Super300 race, are on Friday with a warm-up session followed by two races for each category on Saturday. Tickets are R100 at the gate or online via supergp.co.za.
