SA flag flying in Indianapolis
VAN DER WATT STARTS ROUND TWO
Reigning South African Formula 1600 champion Julian van der Watt will be driving on parts of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, as he tackles round two of the 2018 US Formula 2000 title chase in a RDSA Crossley & Webb Tatuus-Mazda single-seater.
The event will be held on the Indianapolis Grand Prix circuit that runs partly on the legendary oval and then on the old Formula 1 circuit on the infield.
Van der Watt currently occupies eighth place in this season’s championship standings, following a positive start on the Grand Prix of Saint Petersburg in March.
“I had a really good first outing in Florida, racing on a street circuit, but it’s been a long wait to get back racing since then,” Capetonian Julian said. “I really can’t wait to race on the Indianapolis Grand Prix Circuit. I watched all the Formula 1 races there when I was a kid and now I get the opportunity to race on that hallowed ground.
“Team Pelfrey is doing an incredible job with my car and I’m looking forward to racing on a track more like I am used to, but most important of all, I’m looking forward to flying the South African flag at Indianapolis.”
Julian’s weekend will start with testing and practice tomorrow, before qualifying and race one on Friday, plus race two on Saturday. South African fans can follow his progress via www.usf2000.com.
