Morfous lend a hand

Alexandra Black Aces owners George and Mario Morfou are said to have played a huge role in helping Maccabi FC win promotion to the National First Division (NFD) after winning the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs last weekend. According to a source, the brothers have been helping in the day-to-day running of the club and will continue to be involved with them in the NFD. “I’m not sure if they have some shares or not, but I know they have a very close relationship with the club. They are one of the reasons why the club are now in the NFD. They have helped in scouting players and getting them run in a professional way,” said the source. The brothers owned Mpumalanga Black Aces before selling their status to John Comitis, who formed Cape Town City.

Mohomi could be on his way out

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lucky Mohomi (above) could follow the likes of Fares Hachi, Yannick Zakri and Siyanda Zwane as the latest player to be loaned to other clubs. This comes in the wake of Bafana Bafana international Andile Jali joining to further boost a midfield that boasts of captain Hlompho Kekana, Tiyani Mabunda, Oupa Manyisa and Sibusiso Vilakazi. It is looking bleak for the former Free State Stars anchor-man, who failed to make a start for Downs the whole of last season.
