Micra hatchback revitalised

-

The fifth generation of Nissan’s Micra represents a significant progression in design and, it is claimed, will revitalise the small car segment in South Africa.

The company put customers at the heart of the development of the new Micra with focus groups and clinics to create a no-compromise package that answers the needs of buyers.

Nissan’s contender in the Lower B hatchback segment, the Micra Active, will continue to be sold alongside the Micra, which will make its mark in the Upper B hatchback segment. In South Africa, the Upper B hatchback segment represents approximately 15% of the passenger vehicle market.

The exterior design moves the Micra in a daring new direction with a high-quality cabin that boasts two-tone soft-touch materials as standard across the range. The five-door-only body shell boasts best-in-class ergonomics for front-seat occupants, with no compromise to rear passenger space.

The cabin is based around a T-shaped “gliding wing” dashboard. The instruments and controls have been grouped together for comfort, convenience and safety.

Boot capacity is a competitive 300 litres and delivered without compromising rear-passenger knee room.

That figure expands to 1 004 litres when the 60:40 split rear seats are folded down.

The Micra is equipped with a range of technologies designed to enhance the car’s comfort, convenience and safety performance. Many are standard.

There are three specification levels available – the Visia, the Acenta and the Acenta Plus.

Every Micra comes with six airbags as standard, seat belt warnings, seat belt height adjustment and Isofix child seats.

Electronic safety systems include vehicle dynamic control, anti-locking braking system, electronic brake force distribution and hill start assist.

There is one engine available at launch – the 66kW, 140Nm turbo-charged petrol unit.

As with all other Nissan vehicles, the Micra is covered by Nissan Assured and comes with a six-year / 150 000km warranty; a three-year / 90 000km service plan and 24/7 roadside assistance.
