The Citizen (KZN)

Sibongiseni’s picks

-

Today’s clash between Dundalk and Cork City in the Irish Premier Division is not only a battle between first and second, but a contest between sides who have won the league. Hosts Dundalk won it two years ago, while Cork City are the defending champions.

City are in pole position for a successful title defence, as they lead Dundalk by a point going into their clash today at Oriel Park.

There is not much that separates the two sides, as Dundalk go into the tie on a run of eight games undefeated, while City have gone one better after nine matches without tasting defeat.

However, I am persuaded to lean towards a Cork victory based on their head-tohead records in 10 outings.

City have won five, while Dundalk managed a rather disappointing two wins and shared the spoils in the other three games. Also, City’s desire to add to their three league titles will give them an extra motivation to win. Pool Name: S6 V2 P2 M1: Dundalk v Cork City. Previewed above. Tip: Cork win = 3.
