Milestone man can spoil Sharks party

- Rudolph Jacobs

With precious little to celebrate in a poor Super Rugby campaign, Stormers fullback Dillyn Leyds will at least provide his team with one solid reason this weekend.

In the Stormers final game of their campaign at Newlands, they could still spoil the play-off party for the Sharks, who desperately need to keep winning to stay alive.

Leyds (left), who scored one of the two tries in the 25-14 loss to the Jaguares in Buenos Aires last weekend, will reach a personal milestone when he is set to earn his 50th Super Rugby cap.

Leyds, who played nine Tests for the Boks last season, came through the junior ranks at the union, played three Super Rugby games for the Western Force in 2014 before returning to the Cape.

He made his debut for the Stormers on the wing against the Bulls scoring a try and helping the Stormers to shock the Bulls 29–17 in Pretoria on the opening weekend of 2015 Super Rugby season.

Since then he has featured at fullback, wing and flyhalf for the Stormers, developing into a key player in Robbie Fleck’s squad.

The match at Newlands will also serve as a farewell for loose forward Nizaam Carr, scrumhalf Dewaldt Duvenage, prop JC Janse van Rensburg and wing Raymond Rhule, who are leaving to play in Europe.

One reason for the Stormers’ dismal season is scoring only 43 tries in 15 games, the third least in the competition.
