France invests in digital hub
If you’re an artist, coder or creative making content in the digital space, Tshimologong Precinct is putting out the call for your talents.
The digital innovation precinct, in conjunction with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the French Institute of South Africa launched Tshimologong’s Digital Content Hub in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, yesterday.
The new hub will act as a physical incubator of innovative audiovisual content where artists can create animation, virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, holograms, 360 web content, video games, apps, TV shows, music and more.
The AFD is planning a sizeable investment of R14.5 million over the next three years in order to expand the hub’s capabilities.
“We need this kind of partnership for skills development in the country,” said Tshimologong Precinct’s chief executive Lesley Williams. “This partnership will create market access between French companies and South African startups, driving investment opportunities for digital content businesses. It is a win-win for all involved.”
“The cultural and creative industries are capitalising on the momentum of digital innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa. Culture creates jobs, stimulates the economy and enables inclusive and sustainable growth, while helping to better address issues of education, citizenship and the environment,” AFD Southern Africa regional director Martha SteinSochas said in a statement.
