Sloppy dressing shows total lack of respect

n reply to Cliff Buchler’s comment “the times they are a-changing”. Today, the trend is to look as ridiculous as possible in order to attract attention. The one quality lacking in today’s world is respect. Self-respect and respect for others.
We dressed for the occasion as a mark of respect for the young lady we were courting and/or for our hosts. It also felt good to be neatly and appropriately dressed. Obviously, one won’t wear a suit to a braai or a picnic.
We also dressed appropriately when going to church out of respect for our God. The theory that God doesn’t care how you dress is garbage.
Wearing rugby shorts, a T-shirt and tackies shows no respect whatsoever.
I interviewed hundreds of aspiring young teachers and the first thing I noted was their dress. A sloppily dressed teacher was a big no-no, as it showed a lack of self-respect, a lack of pride, and a lack of respect for the institution.
In sales, “dress for success” is the rule. A rep’s appearance is worth money in the bank.
It is said that “respecting someone or something indicates the quality of your personality”.
Cliff, the saying “clothes maketh the man” is still relevant today for those who want to get ahead.
