Karyn White heads diva night at Carnival City

-

Divas 2018 shimmies to Gauteng for one night only at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena on July 27.

This year’s show features international award-winning diva Karyn White, as well as South Africa’s Sasha-Lee Davids, Paxton Fielies and Unathi Msengana.

White etched her name music history with her smash hit female anthem, Superwoman, which made international waves, selling over one million units, being certified gold and named the Billboard R&B Song of the Year in 1989.

More recently, White has released a new movie and soundtrack, Gale &The Storm,a story loosely based on Karyn’s life and manager Jay King, legendary music producer and founder of Grammy Award-winning group Club Nouveau.

The movie’s synopsis revolves around a revolutionary music producer who links up with a legendary soul singer and tries to convince her to sing again. White executive produced, co-wrote and starred in the film.

The soundtrack is a brilliant fusion of cosmic funk, soul, rock and R&B. White recorded the songs in a record-breaking two and a half days, while filming the movie in a seven-day period. White delivers an array of fiery and soulful melodies while belting out every note and inflection with power, taking people back to the ’70s and ’80s.

Msengana, a singer, radio host, DJ and TV presenter is best known for hosting radio shows on the youth station YFM and on the Metro FM show with Glen Lewis. Unathi was also on the judging panel of Idols SA.

Paxton Fielies is the youngest person to win Idols SA. She recently released her brilliant debut single and music video, Demonstrate, and also released the duet Smother, a collaboration with Craig Lucas (winner of The Voice South Africa 2017). She also sang at the World’s Children’s Prize ceremony in Sweden in April.

Davids was the 2009 co-winner of SA Idols 5. She is also the winner of the 2008 reality TV show Matrix 2. She released her debut album, Sasha-Lee, and had the opportunity to work with Jamie Jones, lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning group All-4-One, on a track entitled, Before You. Sasha Lee has recently performed in a variety of shows, including Divas and Kaapse Jol.

Tickets are available at Computicket and range in price from R225 to R350. The show starts at 8pm.
