Ngcobo’s sights set on U-20 Afcon Niger

After helping Amajita qualify for the 2019 Caf Under-20 Afcon to be staged in Niger, Kaizer Chiefs youngster Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (right) is aiming at using next season’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge to improve his game so that he can make the cut in Thabo Senong’s final squad that will represent the country at the Afcon.

The 18-year-old Amakhosi reserve team skipper wants to get on the scoresheet more often, make assists and improve on his defending.

“I wanted to help the team qualify for Niger so badly. It will be my first Afcon appearance there. I know it won’t be easy to make the final squad for next year, however, I am willing to put in the work to be counted in,” the youngster told Safa.net.

“I am planning to use this sea- son’s MultiChoice Diski Challenge to get me sharper than I currently am in my play. I want to score more goals and provide plenty of assists for my club, while also being more effective when it’s time for us to drop back and defend in our reserve league matches. I believe that doing that will get me ready for next year’s Afcon tournament which is just seven months away.”

Another motivating factor Ngcobo believes helped them secure a spot at the continental youth competition next year is qualifying for the 2019 Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Poland. The midfielder has confidence in the team doing well and believes they have a very strong squad and playing at the World Cup will give them an opportunity to be seen by scouts from overseas clubs.

“This is a strong squad we have at Amajita, and I believe we have what it takes to qualify for next year’s Fifa Under-20 World Cup. Everybody is just driven to do great things and that’s a positive thing. The Under-20 World Cup will also serve as a perfect platform for us to get scouted and possibly earn moves abroad. That’s where my sights are set now.”
