So Enchanting looks the part at Fairview

- Viv Greybe

Alan Greeff-trained So Enchanting, who has struck top form recently, could be up to the task at Fairview today when teamed up with Eastern Cape champion Greg Cheyne in Race 6, the Wedgewood Handicap (Non-Black Type) for fillies and mares over 2400m.

Three runs back when carrying 62kg this five-year-old ran on strongly from last after a slow start to finish second out of 14 in a 2000m MR 72 Handicap. Then taking on stronger opposition she snatched victory in a MR 80 Handicap over 1900m.

Taking a further step up in class in her subsequent outing she ran on gamely from a slow start to claim a 0.75-length second place to Lucky Lulu in a 2000m Pinnacle Stakes. With Cheyne called on this time the four-time winning mare should go one better when racing over the extra distance.

However, Grant Paddocktrained Lucky Lulu with Shadlee Fortune up again, deserves the utmost respect as she will be only 0.50kgo worse off with So Enchanting after their recent clash.

Greeff sends out another lively candidate in four-time winner Sanctuary who has been threatening a fifth career win.

Expect a bold bid from fivetime winner Christmas Carol also out of Greeff’s stable. This sixyear-old will relish the drop in weight and extra distance and should be in the final call.

The Tara Laing stable has a strong hand in Race 3 with Excelero (Chase Maujean) and Omega Onslaught (Robert Khathi) who contest a 1100m Pinnacle Stakes, but seven-time winner Omega Onslaugt could make his presence felt. The pick of the rest are Kiftsgate, Seattle Flame and Anglet.
