Snaith and Fourie score four-timer at Durbanville
The newly reunited combination of Richard Fourie and the Snaith stable has got off to an absolute flier, as they added four winners at Durbanville on Saturday to the two they picked up at the same venue on Wednesday.
The first two were ‘pointers’ as both Computaform best bet Frank Lloyd Wright and up and coming stayer Magnificent Seven won as they liked.
But his ride on The Boston Rose in Race 6 a FM 86 Handicap over 1250m was a trademark Fourie front-running masterpiece.
This Silvano filly had won her last two over the minimum trip, but looked potentially suspect going further. Nevertheless she immediately went to the front when the gates opened.
Halfway up the straight Star Of London, Fours A Crowd and Rebels Spirit all moved strongly into contention and looked capable of sweeping on by. But Fourie was having none of it, and extracted every last drop of effort from his willing mount to get the better of Star Of London by a neck.
Chris Snaith said afterwards “having Richard up is always worth a length or two,” and he couldn’t have been more right.
His win on Silver League in Race 7 a MR 74 1400m Handicap was also a praiseworthy effort. This recent maiden winner was uptight and sweating in the preliminaries, and never looked too happy in the race itself either.
But he gave a nice little kick 300m out, which was enough to hold off the attentions of fellow Silvano gelding Silver Master by 1.25 lengths.
Post-race Chris Snaith said Silver Master “had a bad experience” the only previous time he raced at the course, and would be far more relaxed at Kenilworth.
