Hunt to prove successful

PARTNERSHIP. SNAITH AND FOURIE LOOK TO DO IT AGAIN R2 million Brett Crawford-trained daughter of Jackson is centre of attention.

The Justin Snaith-Richard Fourie partnership has been well-nigh impossible to deny lately, and once again seem to have the best bet on Saturday’s Kenilworth card.

The horse in question is Bunker Hunt in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1200m. Ridden by Bernard Fayd’Herbe on debut, this Sabine Plattner-owned gelding was way back in the early stages, but flashed home once the penny dropped late to only be beaten 0.5-lengths by form winner Elusive Trader.

That was over 1000m, and the extra 200m here will suit even better. While likely to start oddson, he is still worth a decent bet, and can be bankered in all exotics.

Coincidentally Elusive Trader himself appears in Race 4, and how Bunker Hunt fares will provide a valuable pointer as to his chances in a MR 74 Handicap over 1000m.

Vomandla in Race 2 similarly looks hard to deny. The Andre Nel outfit doesn’t put too much pressure on their juveniles, but this one challenged strongly, and only went down to Durty Nelly by the shortest of short heads.

This Sail From Seattle filly is likely to have come on plenty with the run, and over the same course and distance has to be the one to beat.

A complicating factor is that Anton Marcus travels to Cape Town just to ride debutante Water Spirit for Brett Crawford in this race.

Marcus recently announced a sponsorship deal with Ridgemont Racing, and this will be his first ride for them.

All the signs are there that a big effort is expected from the R2 million Jackson filly, and any betting support should be respected.

The main event is Race 5, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m. Tevez is now nine, but will get his favoured soft going and loves the course and distance.

While like most veterans not the most reliable these days, he is well treated by the race conditions, and if in the mood will win this.

If he fluffs his lines all of Olympian, Vincente, Al Wahed and Angel’s Trumpet have to be given a fighting chance.

OLD TIMER: Nine-year-old Tevez could find conditions at Kenilworth tomorrow to his liking and see him record the tenth victory of his career in Race 5, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m.
