A trip to Gunnison with Teetan could be worth it

- Trevor Reid

Fresh off his five-timer at Sha Tin on Sunday jockey Karis Teetan will be full of confidence for the race meeting at Happy Valley today and although he has a number of rides Gunnison, in Race 7, could be the pick of them.

The now four-year-old looked promising last season and although it took the skills of Joao Moreira to get this Not A Single Doubt gelding home in May he had run a number of decent races and more wins look likely.

Returning from a break and back over 1000m should not be a problem and Teetan was aboard him last time out when runnerup behind Super Turbo.

Jockey Zac Purton is three ahead of Teetan at this early stage of the season and what has become the norm for him he has a number of winning chances in the eight races.

Sauls Special is likely to be the biggest threat to Gunnison.

Former multi-champion jockey Doug Whyte could get things off to a good start as his mount in Race 1, Happy Sebring looks the possible winner.

This Sebring gelding has his first start since joining the inform Tony Cruz yard and the step up in distance to 1800m should suit.

Although currently at around the R16 on the TAB a win mark General Dino could be a danger under Teetan. General Dino looked to be improving but inexplicably ran below par last time out. That run could be best ignored.

It was nice to see Callan Murray ride his first winner of the Hong Kong season on Sunday and hopefully we will see a lot more but he will have a difficult task once again as he only has the two rides and both are long shots.

For the record they are Corre Rapido in Race 2 and Arcada in Race 8.

All You Know is another good ride for Whyte in Race 3. This Dark Angel gelding was not beaten far in both starts this season and is ready to run a big race over a course and distance that clearly suits.

Purton can always be relied on for at least one winner and Victory Power in Race 4 looks likely to go close from pole position draw. Being dropped back to 1000m should see a form return.

Possible the banker bet for this meeting comes in Race 5 with Bingo. This four-year-old gelding just needed his last start and ran well enough from a bad draw to finish fourth. Fitter and better drawn he should go close to winning.

Right Honourable is well drawn in the last race of the meeting and Purton should have every chance of finally getting a Class 3 win for the likable gelding. He has failed in this company a number of times but was full of running when winning last time out.
