We need to start believing in Bafana

-

We have noticed the decline of our national soccer team from top to the level where the people have no appetite of going to the stadium and even watching or talking about them.

We don’t talk about our national team, our pride. There’s no atmosphere on the ground or that spirit to say there is big game in our country.

Yes, countries like England and Germany went through tough spells but supporters of those nations never lose interest because they believe in their flag.

I believe that for the country to support a national team we need something that identifies us as a nation. That identity is something that inspires confidence and fighting spirit.

Even when strangers ask you about the team, you should be proud to embrace it.

But Bafana Bafana have the mental strength of a baby.

In the games we played recently, our players showed no confidence and no sense of urgency.

That even applies to our local league games.

The name Bafana should be changed to impala or amabhubesi – something courageous.
