Silver God to shine

GAMEPLAN: TARRY’S CHARGE HAS HOPES OF SECURING A PLACE IN THE SUMMER CUP Atyaab looks set for a winning comeback.

- Jack Milner

Sean Tarry has always had a high regard for Silver God but the form did not match his trainer’s confidence. The decision was then taken to geld this son of Silvano and that may just have been what the doctor ordered.

Silver God came back from a five-month break to contest an Assessment Plate over 1450m on the Inside track at Turffontein and flew up late top beat Rule The Night by 0.30 lengths.

It is worth noting Tarry has entered Silver God for the G-BETS Summer Cup over 2000m at Turffontein on Saturday 1 December and if he is to make the final field he will need to win a race or two.

As he was weighted to win his last race Silver God’s merit rating remained untouched at 93 but if he were to win Race 4 at Turffontein tomorrow, a MR 92 Handicap over 1800m on the Standside track, and win it well, that would help promote his Summer Cup chances. He meets a decent field which includes The Rising Legend from the Geoff Woodruff yard, another Summer Cup nominee, it would raise his rating and improve his chances.

The Rising Legend also needs to win this race so it should be quite competitive.

Mike de Kock has some top three-year-olds and Australianbred Atyaab could be one of them. He has only raced twice for a fastfinishing third place on debut and then an easy win in his next start.

He has been out of action since winning that race in May but De Kock appears to have found the right race for him in Race 3, a MR 84 Handicap over 1600m. Atyaab has the benefit of being drawn in pole position and that should make life easy enough for jockey Randall Simons.

If his fitness does come into question it could be difficult to find a winner as the field is made up of a number of battle-scarred runners.

The one who could improve further is Orapa who came back to form with an impressive 2.60-length victory over Rocky Night last time.

The most experienced runner is Shogun, who is a five-time winner and has not run unplaced in three starts over the course and distance.
