Icarus Flight to show the way again

- Viv Greybe

Stephanie Miller-trained Icarus Flight has not put a foot wrong in his last three outings at Flamingo Park with Ryan Munger aboard, and rates a stand-out bet and banker in all exotic bets at the venue today when contesting Race 6, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1400m.

Making smart improvement three runs back when fitted with a tongue tie, this four-year-old powered home a 4.50-length winner in a 1300m MR 72 Handicap. Then stepping up the distance to 1600m, he destroyed his opposition by seven lengths.

The gelding’s subsequent run, when up in class, saw him justify favouritism with a resounding 5.50-length win a 1600m Pinnacle Stakes. With just 1.5kg more to shoulder this five-time winner should prove too good again.

He could be followed home by his stable companion Red Special with Wes Marwing up.

Expect another bold bid from seven-time-winner Just Ask Me (Muzi Yeni) out of Corrie Lensley’s stable. This gelding has held form with Yeni up since posting a surprise 6.75-length win three runs back in a Pinnacle Stakes over the distance.

Another who could be in the final call is Sarel von Willingh Smittrained five-time winner Top Salute with apprentice Dylan Lerena aboard.

One worth following in the minor events is Bill Human-trained Dylan’s World (Shadlee Fortune) who lines up in Race 2, a 1400m Maiden Plate. This four-year-old was a narrowly beaten second in his last two starts – the last of which was with Fortune aboard when sent off favourite, and the gelding should recoup losses.

Go with Jarett Rugg-trained Town Flyer who will have Nicholas Patel aboard again in Race 4, a 2200m MR 72 Handicap.
