Springboks need major overhaul

-

South African fans will just have to accept the fact that the Springboks are no longer world rugby supremos. Even the minnows read us like a book. Lack of variation, innovation, change of tactics and approach have made our team an easy target.

Poor leadership, by both coach and captain, has contributed to our demise.

They don’t seem to be able to read the game and make the necessary changes.

Unfortunately, team selection has not been based on merit. What have our rugby academies, if they still exist, been doing to produce star players?

We desperately need two specialist flanks, another No 8 (Warren Whiteley is injury-prone), two wings, another fullback and flyhalf and two specialist centres.

Moving Handre Pollard to centre to make way for Elton Jantjies is not the answer.

Why has Ross Cronje been sidelined? Ivan van Zyl has not really made the grade.

Aphiwe Dyantyi has been a massive disappointment. All that lavish praise showered on him after only a few appearances has backfired on this talented player. There is far too much pressure on this young man.

The tenure of coach Rassie Erasmus, pictured, has not been very successful and his team selection is rather worrying.

He has very little time to make the correct decisions before next year’s World Cup.
