Ministers there to serve the people

-

The Commission of Inquiry into State capture, chaired by Raymond Zondo, pictured, has brought some interesting aspects. I am not an advocate of inquiries since they have proved to be a whitewash and a waste of taxpayers’ money in SA.

The role of our ministers should be reinforced. The word minister is derived from minus in Latin, meaning an inferior person as opposed to magister, a superior one.

For example, a minister of a church’s role is to serve the church.

And a minister of the government is the state’s servant, there to serve the people.

Ministers should be subjected to induction where generic functions are drilled.

And it should be carried out when they are ushered in at the beginning of their tenure.

The public protector, an independent authority, is ideal to conduct this.

Or else the Mickey Mouse display of the fire pool at Nkandla by Minister Thulas Nxesi will be repeated ad infinitum.

Yes, we can stop the suffering if we do our creative best!
