BaaBaas can’t match nuns’ tea party

Ifound the South African/ Barbarians vs Argentina match a very mediocre game in front of a mediocre crowd. A nuns’ tea party has more fun and excitement. The only rousing moment was the Argentinian hooker’s flare-up, and that was only powder-puffs at 10 paces with not a mascara pencil thrown in anger. I missed Elton Jantjies’ last-gasp drop goal as I was out watering the garden. Boredom had already set in.

The SA forwards tried their best, but were not riveting. Handre Pollard was at his usual solid, steadfast, non-inventive best. Damian de Allende was just, well, Damian de Allende – average and uninspired.

Aphiwe Dyantyi, once again, disappointed. Apart from one run down the sideline, where he was hauled in from behind and tackled, he did nothing else of value. I really cannot see him favoured over Cheslin Kolbe, Dillyn Leyds, Sbu Nkosi and Ruan Combrinck.

I’m sorry Rassie Erasmus did not see fit to give those members, who have not played for some time, a chance to show their worth. An opportunity missed.
