Pitso hits out at Chipezeze antics

‘REFEREE GOMES WOULD HAVE DEALT WITH IT’ Baroka coach full of praise for ‘mature’ players.

Pitso Mosimane was not happy with Baroka FC goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, following a goalless draw between Mamelodi Sundowns and Bakgaga on Tuesday night in the capital city.

Mosimane lamented the two points his team dropped at home but had a lot to say about what he described as time-wasting tactics by the Zimbabwean shot-stopper, who was voted Man of the Match for his efforts.

“He deserves the award for playing and for killing time. He is the best when it comes to killing time, he is on another level. Phillip Tinyani (the referee) is not experienced enough to deal with this kind of African influence,” said Mosimane.

“Tinyani is not an international referee, if it was Victor Gomes, he would have dealt with it because you’d find two players on the ground and the goalkeeper down all the time. He did that against Orlando Pirates, limping. But how do you limp and you manage to play a full game and dive for penalties without a limp?

“He reminds of the AS Vita goalkeeper (Nelson Lukong) when they played us. Chipezeze is a good goalkeeper, no doubt about that ... but when someone does that, how do you crown him Man of the Match? Where is the fair play?

“I am not happy with that. There is a goalkeeper from South Africa who also does that, it is unbelievable,” he added, in an apparent reference to Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana star Itumeleng Khune.

His counterpart Wedson Nyirenda praised his side for going toe-to-toe with the defending Absa Premiership champions, following a fast-paced Telkom Knockout triumph over Orlando Pirates this past weekend in Port Elizabeth.

“A point away from home is vital for us, looking at where we are. To see the boys play like this after that hard final against Pirates was great,” said Nyirenda.

“This game was evidence that our players have matured. After winning that cup final ... a few days later they come out and put up a fight against a very formidable and accomplished team like Sundowns.

“We have played top teams and we’ve done well. Now the players have got that confidence that we need in the team. Playing top teams is so much easier because you know exactly what they will do,” he added.
