SACP wants Zondo accused to answer charges
The South African Communist Party in the Eastern Cape has added its voice to those calling for people implicated by evidence in the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture to be called to account.
Speaking at the Eastern Cape at a conference on the party’s 2019 elections manifesto at KwaBhaca, formerly known as Mount Frere, SACP Eastern Cape secretary Xolile Nqatha said the only way for the ANC to rid itself of corruption was for the people named in the Zondo Commission hearings to “tell their side” of the story before the commission.
The law should then take its course regarding those found to have a case to answer, he said.
The SACP had abandoned its plan to contest the elections independently from the ANC.
“We have seen that the ANC is serious about stopping corruption.
“We have seen that the ANC is no longer an organisation of factions and is trying to undo state capture,” Nqatha said.
At the same conference, ANC treasurer-general Paul Mashatile called for rural communities to work together to fight drugs and domestic violence. “We need to work together as men and stop those in our communities that are abusing women.
“We can never win the struggle of violence against women and children until we, as men, say enough is enough,” Mashatile said. – ANA
