Fed Cup: SA girls are relegated

The national women’s tennis team will return to the bottom tier of the Fed Cup next season after going without a win at the Euro-Africa Group 2 tournament in Luxembourg last week.

Having fallen in 2-1 defeats to Israel and hosts Luxembourg, they lost 2-0 to Portugal in their final match, slipping back to Group 3 after being promoted last year.

“We were best prepared as we possibly could be but unfortunately the result did not go our way,” said South African captain Rene Plant. – Wesley Botton
