Hawwaam will run in SA Derby

Midweek racing will take place at Turffontein tomorrow and that could work in the favour of Mythical Bolt for whom a second victory cannot be far off.
Sean Tarry’s charge lines up in Race 7, a MR 83 Handicap over 1200m on the Inside track and despite having to jump from barrier No 10, experience at the course should give him a useful advantage. He is a well-bred son of Captain Al who has only raced six times for one win and four places.
He made his debut at this course and did well to finish a one-length second behind Winter Storm who has gone on to win two more races. He had a short break after that and came out to run in a Maiden Plate over 1160m at Turffontein on Summer Cup day which he won easily.
Tarry then took him to Cape Town where he raced unplaced on debut, but in his next start finished third to Para Handy, going down just 0.30 lengths. Interestingly, the horse that split them in second place was Winter Storm, who was just a head in front of Mythical Bolt.
While being drawn on the outside of the 10-horse field when the race starts on the bend has to be a drawback, what will assist Mythical Bolt is his excellent gate speed.
He was extremely unlucky to lose last time as he looked in control of the race but jockey Lyle Hewitson lost his rein close home and was beaten 0.30 lengths by Tarsus.
Hewitson is back on board tomorrow and is unlikely to make the same mistake twice.
The main threat could come Paul Peter-trained Bold Coast who has Gavin Lerena up and jumps from No 3 draw.
A glance at his current form seems to indicate this five-yearold son of Bold Silvano might need a little further but he has won his only start over the course and distance. He is a five-time winner getting 0.5kg from a three-year-old and that could be in his favour.
Tarry also saddles Purple Diamond who is another runner with a decent record at this course. He has had five runs on the Inside track with one win and two places to his name.
This Var gelding is also not that well drawn at No 8 and is generally not the quickest out of the starting stalls so apprentice Luke Ferraris will have to ride him from off the pace, but will need to ensure he does not leave himself with too much ground to make up.
