Fledgling Galaxy on the verge of glory

-

It is less than a year since renowned football agent Tim Sukazi bought Cape Town All Stars’ National First Division status and formed TS Galaxy but his new club is on the verge of making history.

The Rockets, as Galaxy are known, are just 90 minutes away from making their first appearance in the Nedbank Cup final.

Standing in their way however are Golden Arrows who are as desperate to stake their claim on the R7 million winners’ cheque.

“It is not by mistake that we are here,” said Galaxy midfielder Zakhele Lepasa this week of their semifinal match at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon.

“We have been working hard. We will give them the respect they deserve but we will also give our best,” added the 22-year-old player who is on loan from Orlando Pirates.

For Arrows, veteran defender Musa Bilankulu said he believes the football gods have just smiled upon them and it was now up to them to capitalise on their luck. He said the announcement that the final would be held in Durban has added motivation for them to ensure they take to the Moses Mabhida Stadium field on May 18.

“We are all happy that if we get to the final we will be at home. We want to represent Durban,” said the 34-year-old.

“We played away in the opening stages of the competition but the football gods have smiled upon us and gave us a home semifinal and the final will be here as well. That is just enough motivation for us… It is up to us now to make sure we go through to the final,” he said. Bilankulu said

are hungry for another trophy, having last won silverware back in 2009 when they clinched the MTN8.

“I was there in 2009. I believe that a year with nine in it is our lucky year and we will win this one and make Durban proud,” said the former Bloemfontein Celtic player.
