Winter Chill to warm punters

- Ken Nicol

It doesn’t look easy at Scottsville today, but Garth Puller is undoubtedly the stable to follow, as he has a number of good chances.

His run of fancies kicks off in the opening race.

Winter Chill was solidly supported on debut and did well to finish second over this same 1000m after being slow away and carried out.

With only natural improvement this What A Winter colt should see off his eight rivals. The main threat could come from stable mate Double Espresso, who kept on well behind speedy Great Stohvanen last time.

Then if Bay Tibbs builds on a very promising opening effort he should score a first career win in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1400m. This son of Bold Silvano made his debut at this track over shorter and caught the eye running on late behind shock winner Master Of Fire.

He should be more suited to this trip and if he has come on from his first run, will undoubtedly be the one to beat in a field with mostly moderate exposed form.

Fellow three-year -old Al Jazeera looks the main danger. While clearly no star he has consistent form and will pick up a race at some stage.

Puller also saddles first selection Miss Charlotte in Race 2. This one clearly has the best form in the Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate over 1200m, but her two best runs have been on the Polytrack.

If able to reproduce that form on turf she will win this, but there is an obvious question mark over the surface.
