CONDITIONS: BACK ON TURF AND UP THE STRAIGHT, DALAI’S PROMISE HAS THE EDGE

- Jack Milner

Bet on new R6 Daily Double in Races 6 and 7.

Dalai’s Promise did not appear to take to either the Polytrack or the turn at Greyville last time and she never got into the race or ever looked like challenging the leaders.

On Saturday she returns to racing on the turf and up the straight to contest a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m on the Turffontein Standside track, and that should see her regain the form that saw her notch up three successive victories prior to the disappointing Greyville outing.

She will be taking on the colts but has the speed to rise to the occasion. Since joining the Ashley Fortune stable from Cape Town in March this daughter of Potala Palace has raced eight times for three wins and three places, all over 1000m.

She also has the advantage of being the best handicapped runner in this six-horse line-up and with just 54.5kg on her back, she

could be hard to oppose.

The main threat is likely to come from Prince Of Kahal who has raced against some of the best sprinters in the country. His last two runs have been in Grade 1 races and although finishing unplaced in both, he was only two lengths back in the Computaform Sprint and 2.70 lengths off the winner in the Golden Horse Sprint at Scottsville.

He also has to give 5.5kg to Dalai’s Promise which will not be an easy task.

If you look past those two, any of the others could win. Although now eight years old, Talktothestars could be a danger with just 48.5kg to carry, courtesy of the 4kg apprentice claim of Cole Dicken. He has placed on this former Grade 1 winner in both of his last two starts but that was in lot weaker company.

The new Daily Double bet kicks off at Fairview tomorrow and this new bet should result in a decent payout. The first leg of the Daily Double will always start in the race after the first leg of the Jackpot. At Turffontein on Saturday this will be in Race 6.

It is a R6 unit and the way to go is to box Wonderwall (No 2) and Puget Sound (No 1) with African Rock (No 2), Archilles (No 3) and Eurostorm (No 5). That will cost R36 and whatever comes, you are likely to make a decent profit.
