David Tlale and Tastic host a lavish celebration.

It is Women’s Month and a time when women across South Africa are recognised for their achievements in various fields of industry, education and, most importantly, on the home front.

Women’s day, yesterday – celebrated as a public holiday for most people – signals a long weekend that is commemorated with a host of events and activities that range from arts and theatre to music festivals and even book launches.

Tastic Rice, one of the bestloved and most versatile food staples in the country, together with fashion guru David Tlale hosted an exclusive lunch at Le Chatelat in Sandhurst in celebration of the historic movement that crowned August 9 Women’s Day.

Marketing director for rice and pasta at Tiger Brands South Africa Thembi Sehloho said: “As a heritage brand, Tastic has seen the evolution of South African society and the role women have played in that evolution.”

With the event organisers pulling all the stops, the function attracted some of the biggest celebrities from around the country, as well as the women who motivated and inspired them in their careers.

With a theme inspired by the heritage both brands hold in South Africa, Tastic Rice and David Tlale invited phenomenal women from all walks of life to share their inspirational journeys while appreciating the rich sense of culture that each personality adds to the colourful canvas of South Africa.

Many of the guests attended with the women that they value and who have been central in moulding them into the people they are today. TV host Lalla Hirayama and celebrity chefs Ndash and chef Nti attended with their mothers. Other guests, such as TV personalities Mbali Nkosi, Khanyi Mbau and musician Brenda Mtambo also attended.

“Our collaboration with David in celebration of Women’s Day seemed fitting as it gave two iconic brands the opportunity to celebrate the phenomenal women who have played such a big role in the growth of our society and our brands.

“We regard them as phenomenal because they remain true to their values with the understanding that the success of all women in the future relies on the steps we all take every day to make each generation better than the last,” adds Sehloho.

In addition to the guests in attendance, the star of the day was the deliciously playful menu of Tastic Rice dishes, curated by celebrity chef Nti in collaboration with Tlale.

From the canapes all the way through to the dessert, each course allowed guests to be taken on a sensory journey where each grain revealed the life behind the perfectly cooked meal.

Guests enjoyed an array of Tastic-inspired dishes while Ntokozo Mbambo sang touching renditions of classic South African songs, setting the tone for an intimate and engaging afternoon.
