Mpisanes on opposite sides as clubs square up

Drama could spill over to the VIP suites at Chatsworth Stadium this afternoon where Royal Eagles and Real Kings meet in a GladAfrica Championship match (3pm).

The rivalry between the two KwaZulu-Natal sides heightened this week with revelations that former Eagles co-owner Shawn Mpisane (below) had joined forces with Kings after losing the battle for the ownership of Eagles to her estranged husband Sbu.

Kings chairman Bongani Ngidi this week explained however that Shawn was not actively involved in the running of the team, calling her more of a sponsor after she offered some of the players she took from Eagles as well as coach Joel Masutha.

But Shawn was last week at Kings’s match against Jomo Cosmos at Dobsonville Stadium where she took pictures with the club suggesting she was actively as involved as she had been with Eagles.

Kings will go into the match with better momentum having managed a win at Jomo Cosmos while Eagles fell to a 3-2 defeat to Swallows FC. Eagles coach Morena Ramelreboli told the Saturday Citizen after last week’s match that he was still rebuilding the team but would look to get better results especially at home.

Another interesting derby is at Kabokweni Stadium where TS Sporting host Mbombela United this afternoon. Sporting have not had a good start like last season and will be looking to use home advantage against their neighbours to good effect.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila have meanwhile suspended their coach Moma Medic pending an internal disciplinary hearing, much to the agitation of their fans who feel the team are shooting themselves in the foot.

“Due to some internal conflicts, we have placed our coach Moma Medic on suspension pending an internal DC hearing. Assistant coach Phuthi Mohafe will be in charge pending the outcome of of the hearing,” read the statement the Venda-based club posted on Twitter this week.
