Apollo Rock worth a genuine bet

- Brendan Gaillard

A moon rock from the Apollo 11 astronauts given to Dutch Prime Minister Willem Drees was found to be petrified wood when examined by specialists.

Trainer Tara Laing is not likely to be concerned about that and will be more focused on her runner Apollo Rock in Race 2 on the Fairview Polytrack today.

This three-year-old colt is improving and from pole position draw looks hard to beat over a course and distance that clearly suits him.

Trainer Gavin Smith had a very good day on Friday winning four races and his runner Master Newton could be a banker for the exotics today by winning Race 5, a MR 68 Handicap over 1300m.

Master Newton is a tad unreliable but won so well last time out, suggesting he could win this race as well.

This four-year-old gelding was an easy 3.25 lengths winner over the course and distance this month, chalking up his second career victory.

Warren Kennedy gets the ride and from a good draw Master Newton can follow up.

The saddle slipped on Bushy Park last time out so that run can clearly be ignored and she was doing well before that so must be worth an interest in the last race, Race 8.

Western Cape Jockey MJ Byleveld has come to the track for a few rides and will be hoping to steer her to victory and this sixyear-old mare had won well over the course and distance in her penultimate start.

The combination of Tara Laing and jockey Chase Maujean can get things started by winning the opening event with the filly Beyond Temptation.
