Both Preferential and Dispicable

- Ken Nicol

It’s not straightforward on the Greyville Polytrack today, but Preferential can live up to her name by winning Race 4, a Maiden Plate for females over 2000m.

Not that this daughter of Master Of My Fate appears to be anything out of the ordinary and another sobering fact is that she tries the Polytrack for the first time.

But she stayed on solidly trying 1800m on the grass here last time and meets such a moderate bunch of maidens that if she takes to the surface at all it really should be her day in the sun.

Crimea has placed in some weak Cape Town events and can give cheek, as can Silva Magic, who was a few lengths off our selection on debut.

Liverpool Champ in Race 5 has just scored his first win, but can have a swift follow up in this MR 76 Handicap over 2000m.

This Capetown Noir gelding has improved with every step up in trip, and was a facile winner last time for the tried and tested combination of Gavin van Zyl and Warren Kennedy.

That form has worked out well, and this progressive sort has a great chance of going in again, despite also being untested on the surface. Our third winning bet is a proven Polytrack lover.

Dispicable only made his debut in July, when nearly four. And after finding solid betting support he led his hapless maiden rivals a merry dance over this 1200m, making all in impressive fashion. Now that was a weak field, but the manner of the win suggested a lot more to come and he wasn’t unduly punished by the handicapper.

From pole position with 57.5kg he can be expected to take some catching again in Race 3.
