Pleased with win but Joel wants more

Real Kings coach Joel Masutha (right) wants his team to use the hunting tactics of a tiger – bide their time and make moves silently while waiting to pounce at the right time to ensure a kill.

After an integration period – Masutha had to mix and match the players he came with from Royal Eagles with those he found at Kings – the Magic Boys are starting to look like a team who can challenge for promotion.

A 3- 0 beating of Free State Stars on Saturday took them to fifth in the standings with 13 points – six behind leaders Uthongathi – after nine matches. Sfundo Sibiya, Mbulelo Wambi and Edward Manqele scored for the home side.

“It was a good win,” said Masutha, speaking to Phakaaathi yesterday. “It was the first time we had scored three goals this season. It is a confidence-booster especially ahead of our game against Steenberg United who are aggressive at home. We needed this win and goals for our confidence,” he added.

While Masutha is happy with the progress his team are making, he feels they have some work to do before he can be confident of putting up a fight for promotion.

“I am not entirely happy. Yes, I am happy with the fighting spirit and that we are now converting chances we create. But I still believe we can do better in terms of how I want the team to play. I like my team to dominate.

“The opponent had more of the ball which is what I want my team to have. We need to impose our style and the opponent must feel it. We must dictate play. Those are the areas I feel we still need to work on because we give the ball away cheaply sometimes.

“But I’m confident we can get it right. We just need to polish here and there. With the wins and fighting spirit we have I believe we are getting there,” he said.
