Celebs strut their stuff

WINNERS: 16 CHARITIES WILL ALL BENEFIT FROM THE CHARITY MILE

- Kay Selisho

Celebrities all nervous ahead of the big day at Turffontein but love doing their bit for charity.

While the rest of the nation gears up to back our rugby boys in the comfort of their own homes and favourite watering holes, attendees of the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile will get the added perk of watching the Rugby World Cup final between the Springboks and England tomorrow while doing their bit for charity.

The annual event gives a number of charities the chance to get some much needed financial assistance depending on the outcome of the race. This is done through the pairing of 16 charities with their own racehorse and a celebrity in the battle for a share of R1 million.

Among this year’s participating charities are the likes of the Highveld Horse Care Unit, National Horse Trust, Welamlambo Primary School, Peermont Education Trust, Lesedi Scarce Skills Programme and the Animal AntiCruelty League, to name a few.

One of this year’s returning famous faces is actress Thandy Matlaila, who admitted to being a ball of nerves ahead of the big day.

“To be honest, I don’t even know who I’m paired with so I’m nervous,” began Matlaila before adding, “I’ve had the same horse for the last two years and last year we came second so we’re moving up the ranks.”

One thing she is not so nervous about however is her outfit.

“I’m boring when it comes to that so I always play it safe but I always use local designers and this year I’m using Reggie Starred… [my outfit] is always a show stopper though. That’s just me. I never go avant garde unless it is an avant garde event.”

When asked about the rugby and whether or not she will be watching, Matlaila said that it was not even a question.

“We’ve come a long way and I would not be doing my country justice if I did not show my support by watching the match.”

7de Laan actress Hildegardt Whites and radio and television personality Relebogile Maboltja shared her sentiments.

“I will definitely fully behind the Boks that day, power bank and live streaming will be happening,” said Mabotja.

“I think everybody is going to keep one eye on the horserace and the other one on the rugby on Saturday. We as a nation back our team all the way,” added Whites.

The horse that Hildegardt has been paired with and will be keeping an eye on is Barahim while Mabotja will be rooting for Camphoratus.

On the day, Whites will be wearing Vesselina Pentcheva while Mabotja is yet to pick from one of two Tomi R Creations by Tomi Rikhotso.

“The details of the outfit is still a secret, but what I can promise is that it is going to be fabulous! Vesselina has been dressing me for years now,” said Whites.

Charity Mile attendees can also enjoy a refreshment from the Joburg’s Beer Fest area during the day’s festivities in order to keep themselves refreshed as they back their favourite horse and celebrity alongside the Springboks.

“I’ve had the same horse for the last two years and last year we came second so we’re moving up the ranks.
