Put bumper PSL revenue to good use
When the Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced yesterday that they had made R1 billion in revenue for the past season, football fans were quick to make suggestions as to how the money could help grow the game.
The introduction of Video Assisted Refereeing (VAR) came up as the main suggestion.
The PSL announced yesterday after its annual general meeting in Kempton Park that it had made the biggest revenue in its history – this while under the leadership of an interim Chief Executive, Mato Madlala.
“For the first time in the history of SA professional football, the PSL today declared a record
R1 billion in revenue during the 2018/19 season at the annual general meeting,” read a tweet by the PSL yesterday.
Replying to that statement, fans came up with suggestions. @NtsakoRokhotso5 wrote, “does that mean the PSL can afford
VAR?”.
@mashoodoZ suggested that the PSL increase the Absa Premiership prize money by a further R10 million for the winners. “Increase the league winner prize money to (R) 25 million and stop playing,” he wrote.
@Heelextesnion11 suggested that the number of clubs be increased from 16 to 20. “I think it’s about time our PSL should increase teams from 16 to 18 and to 20 in future just like in Europe. Or all teams should have a female team just like they have Multichoice (Diski Challenge) teams.”
The PSL also announced that they hosted German Bundesliga CEO, Robert Klein who spoke to all the 32 member clubs about areas where the two organisations can effectively cooperate.
