Like father like son

- Brendan Gaillard

A good horse can come from anywhere and there is no doubting that Foreign Source is a good horse and he will be hard to beat in Race 2, the Guineas Plate over 1600m today at Fairview.

Like his father, Bold Silvano, Foreign Source has started his career in the Eastern Cape but he may be good enough to take a crack at some features in other provinces and his trainer, Alan Greeff, has a good enough record when doing so.

Foreign Source has won four of his nine starts and was well backed when runner-up behind Viva Rio last month. That form is holding up well and there have already been two winners from that race. Luna Wish won well last Friday and Super Silvano beat some decent types at Kenilworth on Saturday.

If anything, his chances will only have been improved with the news that Captain Anne Bonny has been scratched.

But punters are urged to exercise caution before placing bets at Fairview today as a track inspection and penetrometer reading was due to take place this morning to consider changing from the turf to the Polytrack.

Other runners on this card who may be worth an interest are Comet Path in Race 1 and Hooves Of Troy in Race 7. Both come out of the yard of Gavin Smith who is not in the greatest form at present.

Comet Path did not show much in her first three starts and clearly did not like the Polytrack. Put on the turf for her latest start she did a lot better and despite being slowly away, filled third position behind Beyond Temtation. That should be good enough form for her to run a decent race.

The sire Vercingetorix is having his best season so far and Hooves Of Troy could bounce back to form and win Race 7.
