Tom Cat could be a Healthy Star

- Larry Foley

– After the heroics of Mr Clint - and all concerned - when winning the 2019 Dester Singapore Gold Cup last Sunday, it’s back to basics today with a solid eight-race mixedtrack meeting at Kranji.

And while the Class 3 1600 in Race 5 is the obvious feature, the most interesting race is Race 2, the Restricted Maiden over 1100m on the Polytrack with the most interesting horse, a debutante in Healthy Star.

What makes this un-raced three-year-old so fascinating is that he trials like a very good horse but has no luck whatsoever at two attempts to get to the races.

This Per Incanto New Zealand-bred gelding was scratched on race day – lame at his first attempt to get to the races in October before - somewhat cruelly for connections getting red-flagged at the barriers two weeks back after being kicked by a fractious horse in the adjacent gate.

You need luck in racing - and even more so patience - so hopefully what could be a very nice horse can both get to the track and jump cleanly and give his trainer, owners and his already growing number of fans, something to cheer about.

Tom Cat had excuses last start in Class 4 after a nice maiden win on debut and he will be hard to hold out in Race 7 with Vlad Duric from gate 3 winning factors.

Best Bets: Healthy Star, Race 2, Win; Tom Cat, Race 7, Win and Yulong Honor, Race 6, value.

Jackpot Race 5-8: 2, 3, 5 and 8; Race 6: 1, 2, 4, 7 and 9; Race 7: 7; Race 8: 6 and 7.
