Riding the streets of Joburg again

-

It’s that time of the year when more than 20 000 cyclists take to the streets in Discovery 947 Ride Joburg tomorrow.

Joburg’s most iconic cycling event returns with some exciting changes, but the organisers have assured cyclists and residents that they can expect the same world-class event they have come to know over the years.

“We work closely with the City of Joburg and other critical partners to not only ensure the safety of our cyclists, but residents too.

“To this end, several road closures will be in effect on the day and we urge everyone to take note of them and make use of the available tools to navigate around the city,” said Primedia group events manager, Alexia Poulos.

Organisers are also inviting residents to join in the fun by cheering cyclists on at the Powerzones and spectator areas along the route, which spans 94.7km of Joburg’s diverse urban terrain.

Poulos said that the scale of support from Joburg residents was unparalleled. “The spirit of Joburg truly comes to life thanks to the thousands of spectators who come through to support and motivate cyclists along the route every year.

“There is always a great vibe around these areas with a lot of fun activities and entertainment, so bring your friends and family for an amazing day!”

The 23rd edition of world’s second-largest timed cycling race welcomes new sponsor Discovery, heralding a new event name, the 947 Vitality Short Ride.

“Discovery has come on board at the right time to take this iconic event to the next level,” said 947 station manager Thando Makhunga.
