Kilindini’s talent runs deep

- Ken Nicol

Kilindini carries the stamp of real class about him and can be expected to confirm his credentials as a serious contender for the coming Cape Guineas by winning the MR 82 Handicap over 1600m at Kenilworth today.

This Silvano colt has won his last two races in eye-catching style, quickening fluently to down a couple of smart Justin Snaith inmates in Pinkerton and Hurricane Harry.

The former has franked the form by winning his next two starts and Kilindini looks well undervalued with a current merit rating of 96. This Brett Crawfordtrained rising star looks very difficult to oppose in Race 2.

There is another obvious improver though and once again the primary opposition comes from the Snaith outfit. Fellow threeyear-old Wild Coast also recorded easy back-to-back wins, before getting going when the race was over last time in a slow run affair.

This first foal of champion Beach Beauty also has a very bright future and can be expected to challenge but is likely to find one too good on this occasion.

Another highly promising sophomore catches the eye in Race 5. Sir Michael produced a sustained finish to win going away a month ago, and the form line has already produced three winners.

But the standout wager in this card is in Race 1 and from one of the less fashionable yards.

Piet Botha’s Warrior Tiger was fourth in a Listed race second time out and really caught the eye last time though, when he faced winners in a MR 78 Handicap over this 1000m. Ridden from off the pace, he finished very strongly to get within a length of promising sprinter Celtic Voyager.
