STREAMING: PERFECT FOR A LOW-KEY HANGING OUT WITH YOUR DADDY
No gift, no worries. Dad will love these Netflix films.
In case you forgot, it’s Father’s Day this Sunday. And because of the Covid-19, a lot of us will need to be creative with how we honour our dads under lockdown. You may have ordered a gift online for him – but in the event it doesn’t arrive on time, you may find yourself at your wits end.
Don’t fret. All you have to do is load up your Netflix account with one or all of these five classic movies that are perfect for streaming on Father’s Day:
DRAMA: THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS
Based on a true story, this heartfelt movie stars Will Smith as a salesman who takes up an unpaid internship at a stock brokerage firm when he and his son (played by his real-life son Jaden Smith) are evicted.
Be sure to have some tissues on hand!
ACTION: GOLDENEYE
Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond debut may not be as sleek as the modern Daniel Craig era of the franchise, but there’s no denying that the actor is the very definition of suave.
Dad will love seeing Bond go head-to-head against his friend-turned-nemesis Agent 006 (played by Sean Bean) as he tries to destroy earth with a space weapon.
COMEDY: AS GOOD AS IT GETS
Who doesn’t love Jack Nicholson?
In this multi award-winning film he plays an abrasive romance author with writer’s block who tries his hardest to charm the only waitress (played by Helen Hunt) at the local diner who is still willing to serve him.
ANIMATION: DESPICABLE ME
If your dad is a big old kid at heart and loves an animated classic, then the Despicable
Me, is just what he needs. Certifiably one of the most beloved children’s films, it stars the voice-over talents of Steve Carell as supervillain Gru, who is hellbent on stealing the moon.
But his plans go awry as three orphaned girls steal his heart and send him into daddy mode.
SCIENCE FICTION: BACK TO THE FUTURE
Join Marty McFly (played by Michael J Fox) as he ends up hanging out with his dad in 1955, thanks to the DeLorean time machine. Other than returning to the future, Marty also has to get his parents to fall in love with each other so that he won’t be erased from existence.
