INNOVATIVE TOUCH: NEW DELIVERY SERVICE GETS AMAZON BACKING

- Citizen reporter

Global brand re-invents the way it delivers customer experiences.

As part of its commitment to encourage global developer innovation, multinational tech giant Amazon is putting its weight behind Dryvar Foods, a new South African food delivery service start-up.

Set to disrupt the food delivery industry, the Durban-based global brand has re-invented the way it delivers great customer experiences by launching its cloudbased kitchen delivery application this month.

“We are a unique homegrown, on-demand delivery solution that is disrupting the traditional food delivery space,” said Priven Reddy, chief executive of Dryvar Foods.

“We are pleased to be supported by tech giant Amazon, as well as key local players bringing a fresh and innovative touch which will be welcomed by users.”

Dryvar Foods boasts an impressive, well-quipped delivery fleet of delivery motorbikes across the country, complete with heat retaining bins; tamper proof delivery bags and illuminated uniforms. The ownership enables Dryvar Foods to control the entire customer experience, leveraging the brand at every single touchpoint (from the driver’s uniform through the service as well as food safety). “We have thought through the entire experience and found novel and innovative ways to provide a better experience. The illuminated driver uniforms make the brand easily identifiable,” said Reddy.

“We have also incorporated facial recognition as well as route monitoring capabilities to ensure safety and track the driver’s path.” In addition, Dryvar Foods is one of the first food delivery services in South Africa to launch QR based food ordering for restaurants.

Reddy explained that the QR scanner, which is built into the app, provides a contactless benefit due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Subscribed restaurants are now able to display the QR codes on their shop window or tables, allowing the customer to scan and order using their mobile devices instead of the restaurant menu.

The Covid-19 pandemic has cast the spotlight on the food delivery industry like never before, by taking restaurants into the homes of diners, offering consumers greater convenience, safety, flexibility, and choice.

Reddy said that the app was in response to a broader shift – not just in mobile e-commerce, but to a more affordable mobile app with lower operational costs for food and restaurant owners.

“Most owners face the challenge of high setup restaurant costs, salaries, high rentals, workflow inefficiency and high investments with a low return,” he said.

“The new kitchen-centric model offers an innovative solution to owners. Couple nutritious meals with efficient delivery times and service with a smile, and you have a recipe for success.”
