Feature-race frenzy to favour fans

- Jack Milner

There is plenty of local racing this weekend in which bettors can indulge themselves with feature races in all four centres.

The first takes place on the turf track at Fairview today where the Listed Lady's Bracelet over 1600m sees two of the best fillies in the Eastern Cape will take on a runner with feature-race form from the Western Cape.

Alan Greef saddles Luna Halo who he believed was good enough to take on the best three-year-old fillies the Western Cape has to offer. The daughter of Fire Away is unbeaten in five races at Fairview with her only three losses coming in Cape Town.

However, she did not disgrace herself, particularly in the Grade 1 Cape Fillies Guineas where she ran 5.60 length behind Beach Bomb.

She will be taking on Sharon Kotzentrained And We Danced while Candice Bass-Robinson has Gold Poker Game. However, back at Fairview with Richard Fourie up, drawn No 5 and in receipt of 5kg from the other two, Luna Halo will be hard to beat.

The Grade 3 Summer Fling Stakes over 2000m is the main event at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth tomorrow and Hold My Hand is expected to capitalise on the favourable conditions of the race by scoring an overdue second career win.

While many may point to the fact that Kotzen's charge has been costly to follow, one can be encouraged by her return from a 20-week absence to finish an eye-catching third in the 1800m Grade 3 Victress Stakes behind Saartjie last month.

She is at least 4kg better weighted than any of her rivals, also has Fourie up and stands out as the best bet on the card.

Finally, the Michael Roberts Stakes (Non-Black Type) over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday appears to be a two-horse affair between Formagear and Cape Eagle. Both do well at the course, but the slight preference is for Peter Muscutttrained Formagear who is chasing a hattrick of wins.

He tries this distance for the first time but on his style of running, he should relish the additional 150m and give S'manga Khumalo another winner.
