Why ANC opened genocide case

- Lindiwe

There are only two explanations for the ANC government opening a case with the International Court of Justice into genocide allegedly committed by Israel.

Firstly, they think that by doing so they will garner the Muslim vote in the upcoming elections and, secondly, they are desperate to divert attention away from their failures and incompetence.

Our Muslim electorate may well believe that Israel has been heavy-handed in its retaliation, but our Muslim electorate is not stupid. It knows that the ANC is a failure and doesn’t deserve another term of office.

On 7 October, Hamas breached a truce agreement by entering Israel and massacring at least 1 200 people – mostly civilians – wounding about 5 000 and kidnapping 240, including women and children.

These brutal terrorists filmed their atrocities, which included mass rapes, other sexual assaults, torture and burnings.

If terrorists had crossed the borders of any other country, including our own, and committed the same atrocities, would these countries not have retaliated?

Israel is entitled to protect itself and its citizens, including its Arab-Israeli citizens, visitors and foreign workers, many of whom were also murdered and kidnapped.

Our government is a laughing stock with its double standards. Russia attacks Ukraine and our government doesn’t condemn it as “we don’t interfere in other countries’ affairs”.

We never condemned the murder of hundreds of thousands of civilians in Darfur for the same reason. Indeed, our government even welcomed into our country former Sudan’s president, Omar al-Bashir, who has been found guilty by the International Criminal Court of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. They failed to arrest him, as we were obliged to do.

A day or so after 7 October, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor, pictured, called the leader of Hamas to congratulate him on Hamas’ attack on Israel. The ANC thereafter welcomed a Hamas delegation into our country and Hamas has an office in Cape Town.

The ANC should hang its head in shame.
