Fourie, MJ could park the money

- Jack Milner

Racing is on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville today and there are a number of trainers and jockeys who will be looking to come away with a bonus.

The course sponsors also control the Hollywood Syndicate which is just one success away from notching up their 500th winner.

They are sitting on 499 and have added an incentive for those involved. There will be R50,000 each given to the winning trainer and jockey and R10,000 to the winning groom.

The syndicate have 11 runners at today’s meeting, and it would come as a shock if somebody does not grab those winning cheques by the end of Race 8.

First in the queue is trainer MJ Odendaal and jockey Richard Fourie as they team up with Griffin Park in Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1200m.

Griffin Park had some moderate form in his first three starts on the Highveld and while he did not place, he was not far off the winning horse, and all three form lines have produced winners.

He ran poorly in his fourth start but he was not a “happy chappy” and it showed in his performance.

That lack of effort came at the cost of his genitalia which were extracted in December. He has his first start for his new yard and it will be on the Polytrack. Odendaal could not have found a better race for him as it is extraordinarily weak, and Griffin Park has landed a plum No 1 draw.

Fourie is up and will keen to claim the offered spoils as early as possible but if he misses out in Race 1, he will still have two other decent chances as he rides Dontshootthebarman in Race 2 for trainer Clinton Binda and Phaka Imali in Race 8 for trainer Gary Rich.
