Here are the most overrated Netflix shows and movies

-

Some movies and TV shows may win critical acclaim, but audiences can take a different view. A recent analysis has looked at the top 10 most overrated Netflix original productions based on the difference in opinion between critics and viewers.

Netflix was the subject of this intriguing analysis.

A recent Amazon Slots study looked at the perception gaps between professional critics and viewers by analysing Metacritic data for Netflix originals. The Enola Holmes movie, starring Millie Bobby Brown, was deemed the most overrated original production, showing a 40-point gap between the score given by critics (68/100) and that given by users (28/100).

Despite its captivating plot revolving around the sister of the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes, the film didn’t seem to win over the public as much as the industry experts. In second place, The Queen’s Gambit, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, pictured, had a 36-point difference. The series captured interest with its story of a young chess prodigy battling her addictions and received rave reviews (79/100) but didn’t appeal as much to viewers (43/100).

The Witcher: Blood Origin, the prequel to The Witcher, came third with a 33-point gap. The series received an average score of 45/100 from critics and 12/100 from viewers.

Others in the top 10 included Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery starring Daniel Craig, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom with Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis, the Lady Dynamite series, Big Mouth, the Oscar-winning Marriage Story, George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky, Death Note, The Old Guard, the horror film Fear Street Part One: 1994 and Sweet Tooth. Despite their best efforts to remain fair and impartial, critics can still be swept up in the excitement of a new release and offer a more generous review than might be merited.

Users, many of whom view the release at a later date, are not necessarily subjected to the same external pressures and may find they can offer a more objective review of each title, said Amazon Slots. – AFP
