SA rolling in money for international issues

More funds being wasted just to enhance the ego of the ANC and to save face, writes John R.

Aheadline, “Verdict has no teeth”, says it all. What has been the reaction to date? Israel has intensified its bombardments. Israeli protesters are blocking humanitarian aid from entering Gaza. Twelve countries have stopped funding the UNWRA, an aid agency.

El Al has stopped all flights to and from South Africa. Gazans are fleeing to heaven only knows where. Hospitals are running out of supplies. Hamas has not released any hostages, and is not going to. Arab countries are not taking in any refugees, despite the alleged support.

SA has also jeopardised its trade access to the US market through Agoa. Diplomats are desperately trying to save the situation. A sad state of affairs indeed.

One would think that spending nearly R2 billion on the court case there would be some positive results. An extremely bad investment for South Africa.

But, if that’s not enough, the ANC is going ahead with an arrest warrant at the ICC for “key decision-makers, including Benjamin Netanyahu”, for “violations of international criminal law”. The ANC has also approached the UN Security Council to intervene.

South Africa is really rolling in money for international issues while millions are starving in South Africa, as well as living in abject poverty. More money being wasted just to enhance the ego of the ANC, and to save face.

Naledi Pandor will have to have some discussions with our new allies, Iran and Hamas. Things are really going pear-shaped. Netanyahu has clearly stated that Israel troops will not leave Gaza and that “thousands of Palestinian prisoners will not be released”. It’s business as usual for Israel.
