TikTok to reward best short film at Cannes Film Fest
The Cannes Film Festival and TikTok are joining forces once more for the third edition of the TikTok Short Film competition.
This international competition, dedicated to revealing emerging film talent, will award prizes to three winners at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May.
More than $20 000 (about R380 000) is up for grabs.
Chinese social network TikTok, which is an official partner of the Cannes Film Festival and is shaping up to be an ally of the movie business more generally, will be hosting the three winners of its competition as they take to the Croisette in the French city.
And for the first time in its three-year history, the competition is open to creators in the United States.
Interested parties have until 15 March to try their luck.
Before submitting their work, which need to be in vertical format, they are invited to register their candidacy using a form available on the app.
A few rules must be respected: the video submission must be longer than one minute, the filmmaker must be of legal age, no more than 60 seconds of music can be used, no brand names can be displayed and the filmmaker’s profile must be public in order to make the production accessible for viewing.
Candidates must use the hashtag #TikTokShortFilm, which has appeared in more than two million posts to date.
The three main categories are Grand Gagnant, Best Script and Best Directing with prizes designed to recognise and reward excellence in storytelling and cinematic creativity.
The grand prize is €10 000 (about R206 000). –
