Gunners can close the deal

- With Jonty Mark

The English Premier League title race is hotting up, with Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal looking set for a thrilling race to the finish line.

Liverpool appear determined to give head coach Jeurgen Klopp a fitting sendoff, with the German already announcing his decision to leave the Reds at the end of the season.

Klopp’s side shrugged off a growing injury list to produce a second-half comeback and thrash Luton 4-1 on Wednesday,

That victory moves them four points clear of City and five clear of Arsenal, though both have a game in hand, which they will play this weekend, while Liverpool take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final.

This is a Liverpool side full of goals, that coped well with the absence of star man Mohamed Salah at the Africa Cup of Nations. But Salah has now joined the likes of Diogo Jota, Thiago Alcantra and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the casualty ward – the Reds had a reported 11 injuries ahead of the win over Luton.

Will these injuries ultimately play a role in derailing Liverpool’s title ambitions? If they do, then Manchester City and Arsenal will be waiting to pounce. Pep Guardiola’s City are the title favourites, looking for a fourth English Premier League title on the spin, and widely regarded as the best side in the world, after winning last season’s Uefa Champions League.

City have been blessed with the return of several superstars from injury, with Erling Haaland back to bang in the goals and Kevin De Bruyne returning as the league’s master creator.

Guardiola’s side, however, have looked far from a champion side recently, held at home by Chelsea on Sunday and only scraping past Brentford on Tuesday. Does this side have the appetite and stamina to make it four in a row?

Arsenal are many people’s outsiders for the title.

The Gunners have started the year on fire, banging in 21 goals in five league games, including taking down Liverpool at the Emirates. Arteta’s side are currently my bet to close the deal this time around.
