It's another rocket weekend for TAB soccer customers with a Soweto derby, a clash of giants that could decide this season's English Premiership winners and a guaranteed R32-million Soccer 13 pool. It doesn't get better than this so take your bets come the weekend and then sit back enjoy some great football!

But before all the drama of Pirates-Chief sand Liverpool Manchester City, there are four PSL games tonight with Sundowns edging ever closer to a record-extending seventh successive DStv Premiership title, although they are still some weeks away from making it a reality.

The gap between the defending champions and the rest of the pack sits at 11 points, plus Sundowns have two games in hand. As things stand now,

they need another 25 points - or eight wins - to make sure of the title, but that is only if the chasing pack win all their remaining games, which is virtually impossible.

So the target will decrease substantially over the next weeks. Traditionally 60 points are more than enough to take the title and in that case, Sundowns are some six wins away.

They continue their quest tonight at Mbombela Stadium against TS Galaxy, one of the last sides to have beaten them. The war of words between Sundowns' coach Rhulani Mokwena and Saed Ramovic of Galaxy has certainly spiced up the fixture, although Ramovic on Sunday said he was now “tired of talking about it”.

But the enmity will certainly be felt by the players and it is going to be one of the toughest games that Sundown will face in the league his season. Their unbeaten league run now stands at 40 matches since a 2-1 loss to SuperSport United at Atteridgeville on 2 September 2022.

It is now 18 months since that setback and Sundowns have gone onto rewrite the local record books as they continue to dominate.

They are looking to become the first club to go through an entire domestic season without defeat, having reached the halfway mark of their DStv Premiership campaign with 12 wins and three draws.

Bottom-placed Cape Town Spurs have won their last two league games, albeit both at home, but will be underdogs away in Soweto tonight against Orlando Pirates.

Veteran coach Ernst Middendorp has given them belief they could yet avoid relegation, but their best chance tonight is that Pirates are focused on Saturday's derby against Chiefs rather than the task at hand.

Spurs have moved to within three points of Richards Bay, who are away at ever improving Chippa United in Gqeberha this evening.

HIRED/FIRED: Chippa United's new coach duo of Kwanele Kopo and Thabo September have made an unbeaten start with two DStv Premiership draws and an away win in the Nedbank Cup.

BACK IN ACTION: Ghana international Thomas Partey made his injury return on Monday night as Arsenal took Sheffield United apart in the EPL. The midfielder came off the bench to play the last 26 minutes of the game, his first appearance since the October international break.

WHO’S HOT: Cape Town Spurs' top scorer last season, Ashley Cupido, was left out of the side for the first two games of 2024 but returned last Sunday and scored early to set up an important 2-0 win over TS Galaxy.

WHO’S COLD: Lamontville Golden Arrows coach Mabhuti Khenyeza has set a new low with 10 successive defeats – the second worst run in league history.
