Joburg Water says systems are recovering after outage

- Chulumanco Mahamba

The water supply to large parts of Johannesburg is still recovering after taps ran dry on Monday evening, following a power outage at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station.

City Power conducted emergency repairs at the Eikenhof substation and on Tuesday said it had returned full power to Rand Water.

Yesterday afternoon, Joburg Water said the systems were recovering. Complete recovery was projected to take a few days to a week. Some suburbs still have little to no water.

Councillor Nicole van Dyk of ward 99 said: “Ward 99 is still completely dry for the most part; the only suburb in my entire ward of 26 suburbs that has water is Linden,” she said.

Councillor Leah Knott of ward 89 said Constantia Kloof Primary School had asked parents to collect children as they had not had water all week.
