Gospel artist returns to roots to promote video:

A RISING Port Elizabeth-born independent gospel artist is continuing to make strides.

Mayibongwe Mpanda, 37, has released a new video for Dance for the Lord, a song featured on his CD, Your Love is Amazing.

The 37-year-old married father of two has been on the festive season campaign trail to various TV stations, promoting the video.

“The video was released on December 13. It was shot in and around Durban.

“I am not signed to a major label and promote my own work,” Mpanda said.

By day, Mpanda is an Airports Company of South Africa employee based at King Shaka International Airport in Durban.

He spent Christmas in Motherwell with his wife and their two boys.

“I love PE and come home often . . . I am based in Durban because of my day job,” he said.

Mpanda released his album through his label, Mpanda Records. The CD, which has in- fluences of Afro-pop and jazz, came out in 2012.

But Mpanda’s talents extend beyond the musical arena, as he also has a motivational poetry book, Light, written in English and Xhosa. Two months after its release, the book was nominated in 2012 for the Mbali Literary Awards in the Promising Newcomer of the Year category, he said.
